While the waterfront looks just as it did when I was a child the same cannot be said for the actual landing stage. I emigrated to Australia at nineteen and have fond memories of my brother and I eating our packed lunches watching the ferries come and go a mid the hustle and bustle.
Later when I was sixteen I would buy myself a cup of tea and some toast while waiting for the ferry to take me to Birkenhead, the fare was threepence. Imagine my shock ,years later when I saw the desecration, because that's how I saw it, of the beautiful landing stage replaced with a souless synthetic aluminium monstrosity. No attempt had been made at anything close to replication( and yes it can be done) what a loss, who ever sanctioned this construction should hang their head(s) in shame.
